People who are planning to connect their lives with Pitbulls should carefully choose a breeder from which to buy a puppy. This breed is very specific and is definitely not for everybody. First of all, one is required to study the characteristics of the breed and make sure the choice is right.
Pitbulls - Rescues Pictures - Description
The Pitbull is a large dog that was originally bred for pit fighting. Originally, these dogs weighed about 20-40 pounds and were well muscled and strong. Nowadays, the size range is really great. Some Pitbulls may reach the size of about 110 pounds, yet may be as small as 22 pounds. However, this is rare.
An adult Pitbull is about 35-55 pounds in weight. These dogs stand about 18-22 inches at the shoulder. Although they are strong, it is a mistake to believe that they are made up of muscles only. Large dogs are often the result of crossing the Pitbull with some other breeds.
These dogs are powerful and have all the necessary characteristics that a fighting dog should have. The Pitbull terrier has a brick-like head with very broad cheeks. The jaws are very strong and meet in a scissors bite. The neck is well defined and strong.
The ears are usually cropped, yet some owners prefer to leave the ears unaltered. The docked tail is undesirable. The round eyes may be of any color. The coat is short and thick with all colors possible. Pitbulls are average shedders and are OK with regular brushing.
